People use this to speed backwards through media—rewinding a podcast quickly to catch what a guest said, or jumping back through a video to find that exact moment. Unlike the reverse button which takes you back one frame or second at a time, the fast-reverse accelerates backward through content. In chats, it means "go back further," "I need to rewind a lot," or "let's redo this from an earlier point."

Beyond media, it's used metaphorically to mean rewinding through life, memories, or relationships. Someone might use it when reflecting on old photos or missing how things used to be. It can also imply urgency in going backwards—"we need to seriously reconsider this," not just make a small adjustment.

The double-triangle design clearly signals intensity compared to the single-triangle reverse button, making the distinction between regular and fast navigation intuitive. Approved in Unicode Emoji 0.6 in 2010, the fast-reverse button has been available since the earliest days of emoji, reflecting how important backward navigation has always been in media consumption.
