Head Shaking Vertically 🙂‍↕️

A neutral face animated with up-and-down nodding motion—the physical embodiment of agreement and affirmation. The design shows a calm expression paired with directional indicators suggesting the head moving vertically. It's the kinetic complement to simply saying "yes" with your mouth.

Deploy this when you want to affirm something with more personality than a plain word. "Ready to grab lunch? 🙂‍↕️" or when someone makes a good point and you're nodding along enthusiastically. It works great for silent agreement—those moments where you're totally on board but don't need to explain why. Parents use it to signal "yes" to kids, friends use it to show "I'm listening and I agree," and it's perfect for expressing understanding without lengthy text.

The vertical nod carries less resistance than words sometimes do. You're not defending your position or explaining yourself; you're simply saying "yeah, that tracks" or "I'm with you." It reads as supportive and engaged rather than dismissive. The calm, neutral expression keeps things friendly rather than overly enthusiastic.

Like its horizontal counterpart, this arrived as part of Unicode Emoji 15.1 in 2023, completing the set of basic head-shaking gestures that had been surprisingly absent from the emoji alphabet until recently. Together with the horizontal version, it finally gave us a way to express nonverbal agreement and disagreement through motion.
